How To Find Your Perfect Ring Size
Finding the correct ring size is crucial to ensure your championship ring fits comfortably and securely. While the best way to determine your ring size is to visit a professional jeweler, you can absolutely measure it yourself at home using the simple methods below.
Important Note: For the most accurate results, you should measure your finger at the end of the day when your fingers are at their largest. Temperature can also affect finger size; avoid measuring when your hands are extremely cold or hot.
Method 1: Using String or Paper Strip
This is a common and easy method to do at home.
Materials Needed:
-
A non-stretchy piece of string (e.g., thread, dental floss, or a thin strip of paper).
-
A ruler.
-
A pen.
Steps:
-
Prepare: Cut a piece of string or a thin strip of paper (about 5mm wide).
-
Wrap Around Finger: Tightly wrap the string/paper around the largest part of your finger’s joint or where you intend to wear the ring. Make sure it’s not too loose or too tight.
-
Mark: Use a pen to mark the point where the string/paper overlaps.
-
Measure Length: Remove the string/paper and use a ruler to measure the length from the end of the string/paper to the marked point (this is your finger’s circumference).
-
Compare: Use the ring size conversion chart below to find the corresponding ring size for the circumference you just measured.
Method 2: Using an Existing Ring
If you already have a ring that fits comfortably on the finger you intend to wear your new ring on, this method can be very accurate.
Materials Needed:
-
An existing ring that fits the target finger comfortably.
-
A ruler (with precise millimeter markings).
Steps:
-
Place Ring: Place your existing ring on a flat surface.
-
Measure Inside Diameter: Use a ruler to measure the inside diameter of the ring (do not include the metal edges). Measure straight across the center of the ring.
-
Record Measurement: Write down the exact measurement in millimeters.
-
Compare: Use the ring size conversion chart below to find the corresponding ring size for the diameter you just measured.
Method 3: Using a Printable Ring Sizer (Recommended)
This is one of the most accurate ways to measure your ring size at home.
Steps:
-
Download: Download and print our ring sizer tool from [Link to PDF file or image of the sizer tool]. Ensure you print at 100% scale or “actual size” to avoid inaccuracies.
-
Check Scale: After printing, verify the scale line on your printout with a ruler to ensure accuracy.
-
Follow Instructions: Cut out and follow the detailed instructions on the printout to measure your finger. This tool often comes in the form of a measuring tape or circles to compare with an existing ring.
Tips for the Most Accurate Ring Sizing
-
Measure Multiple Times: Measure your finger several times at different times of the day to ensure accuracy and consistency.
-
Knuckle Size: If your knuckle is larger than the base of your finger, measure both spots and choose a size in between so the ring can slide over the knuckle but still fit snugly at the base.
-
Band Width: For wider band rings (over 6mm), you might need to go up a half size from your usual size, as they fit more snugly.
-
Different Hands: Finger sizes can vary between your two hands. Always measure the finger on the hand where you intend to wear the ring.
